Author Q&A with Virginia Night

Hi, I’m Virginia Night! I’m an author who loves dark romantasies, deadly secrets, and divine romances, so these feature prominently in my writing. I’m also a proud simp for Howl Pendragon and I’ve dreamed of literally climbing inside a book since I was old enough to read.

📚 What was your first ever work?

A gripping murder mystery starring a trio of fairy detectives and a magical swan that advised on cases. The fairy detectives were named after flowers, and their boyfriends were named after my older sister’s friends.

I was five when I penned this literary masterpiece.

📚 Who are some of your favorite authors?

How much time do you have? I grew up on Tamora Pierce, Garth Nix, Diana Winne Jones, Meredith Ann Pierce (Aeriel and Irrylath’s romance shredded my adolescent heart), Lloyd Alexander, Patricia C. Wrede, and countless others.

In more recent years, I’ve obsessed over books by Naomi Novik, Laini Taylor, Holly Black, June Hur, N.K. Jemisin, V.E. Schwab, Yangsze Choo, Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Brandon Sanderson, Samantha Shannon…

Oh, and I still revisit my childhood favorites on the regular.

📚 Do you write romantic fantasies or fantasy romances?

Yes.

📚 Hobbies other than writing?

Video games! When I’m not writing, I’m probably romancing Gale on Baldur’s Gate 3 or Garrus on Mass Effect. I also love cats, making a mess in the kitchen, learning languages, and going on adventures with my hubby.

Thanks for reading...and do send me more questions, darling.
